Good Morning New York!
I was able to take part in this fascinating collaboration with London-based artist, IMPREINT. In one of his latest projects titled, Portraits, the artist aims to show our individuality through balloons: all different colors, sizes and shapes, yet imperfectly beautiful.
I'm a huge wanderluster and being a part of this project allowed me to travel through cultural spaces of other participants, both intimate and public. Like art, we each got to interpret which part of our city really makes it "home," New York in my case. That was difficult to determine at first, as I never really visit the cliché monumental areas. In fact, I find all means necessary to avoid the tourist-saturated neighborhood: 34th St & Empire State Building, 42nd St. (Grand Central to Times Square), Wall St., World Trade Center, Brooklyn Bridge. I concluded that SoHo, Manhattan really had that New York City edge, ever-changing but always familiar; my sister modeled for me enthusiastically as we ventured in and out of pretty cobblestone neighborhoods and graffiti walls.
The project focuses on unification, equality and hope. How exactly? With a lot of whimsical and a dash of simplicity. It's always amazing seeing what creatives and artists come up with and I look forward to the final Portraits and seeing where IMPREINT takes us next!
