Desire Oyster Bar
Desire Oyster Bar is located on Royal Sonesta's New Orleans premise, at the corner of Bourbon and Bienville St. Despite being around the infamous Bourbon St., the hotel had a beautifully lush and serene private courtyard, tucked away for their guests. I was invited for dinner with my boyfriend and had the opportunity to taste the best of Desire's menu.
For drinks, we started with the Brandy Milk Punch (Brandy, milk, vanilla, sugar, nutmeg), a delicious concoction for fans of dairy-based alcoholic drinks (me!). This beverage is perfect if you're feeling adventurous but, depending on your meal, you may want to stick to a classic cocktail or wine to enhance the flavors.
Visiting New Orleans meant cajun, creole and seafood-galore, so we had to go with a dozen of the char grilled oysters for appetizer, glazed in garlic and butter sauce. I mean, do I really have to go on about how amazing this tasted? My boyfriend and I have had raw oysters but the warm, flavorful and juicy twist made it the best oysters we've ever had; squeeze some lemon, scoop and soak the rest of the sauce into the bread, highly recommend this.
For our entrees, we ordered different shrimp dishes: the New Orleans Style BBQ Shrimp was served with white rice & french bread, and it was during the first bite that I came to realize that Cajun seasoning is my favorite thing by far. So much flavor ! The Shrimp & Grits was cooked in yellow stone ground grits, tasso and roasted red pepper cream. With a hint of spice, the gritz definitely balanced out the flavor. Add a biscuit to savor all the extra sauce !
Now, what's a meal without some yummy dessert? We had the banana pudding, my favorite, which was made with leftover King Cake in honor of Mardi Gras season, thus the green & purple bits. The slice was drenched in whiskey sauce, which I can't complain about. My boyfriend preferred the deep fried crunchy PB&J sandwich, drizzled with hot fudge and topped with vanilla bean ice cream. Nevertheless, both still hit the spot !
If you find yourself walking down the strip with an appetite, definitely stop by to try out their specialties !
