Queen E. Collection
I was invited to attend Queen E's "Fashion with Purpose" event this past Sunday evening at Studio Arte in midtown Manhattan. When I arrived, the all-white space and furniture instantly lured me in, especially as a luxurious tufted white throne with a gold frame stood conspicuously in the back of the room; the DJ had already begun spinning some African and island music that made me nostalgic for home. I got ready with the other photographers standing by the entrance, waiting on the next attendee to have their pictures taken as hostesses served light snacks and refreshments for the guests.
Hosted by doctor/model Inem Akpan and musicologist/nightlife curator, King Cap Bee along with several musical performances, this fashion show was extremely special because it was also a fundraising: Queen Enidiok ("Queen E") wanted to dedicate and donate 100% of ticket sales for children currently undergoing cancer treatment at the Pediatric Oncology department at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, located here in NYC ! As for Queen's SS16 and Resort 2016 Collection, I was enchanted with every piece, ranging from casual to formal attire, consisting of both male and female clothing. The mixture of prints, textures, fabrics and styles held mine and the audience's eager attention throughout the 2-hour long show. I also loved how unique each model was from their hair and makeup, all the way down to the their shoes; her vibrant collection gave life to the all-white room (pun intended). I love seeing people thrive and pursue their passion, especially Queen's goal for this fashion show and I look forward to seeing more of her astounding work in the coming future.
